| Loved the movie, Say Anything. I liked this flick. This is the boom box
above the head film, that is so right about love. First love. Regular odd-ball
guy digs smart girl. Soundtrack works. Has nice moral aspects without being preachy.
Plus I'm a devotee of stuff from the 80's and early 90's.
For Diane (Ione Sky) of this movie part of growing up was discovering that
not only was her Dad (John Mahoney) flawed (a thief), but also a liar. Ouch!
The relationship between the two was that they could "say anything"
to each other. The IRS put a kibosh on that deal. Actually, they revealed that
it was mostly one-sided. The child tells the truth. The parent tells the child
his view of reality (or realities).
My two favorite scenes are with Lloyd (John Cusack): holding up the boom box
playing "In Your Eyes", and explaining his ideal job when having dinner
with his girlfriend's family. How often does the word process or processed or
processing come up? Hilarious.
When they break up, Lloyd cries. Like a violent scene in a horror movie, I
will avert my eyes. Men and crying. Doesn't work for me. I know he's sensitive;
spare the tears.
I wish there was a sequel to this movie. You know they could not last as a
couple. An English bloke would have won her over by then. Diane was going to
Oxford University. Lloyd was just going to hang around.
Maybe I'll take Four Weddings and a Funeral or Notting Hill as a substitute
for the sequel. |
