I like movies that make me smile; set in New York and has a happy ending. This was a pretty good movie overall, aside from the lack of chemistry between the protagonists:
Jennifer Lopez (Marisa Ventura) and Ralph Fiennes (Christopher Marshall). Seems even the actors didn't believe the premise of the script.
It's familiar in the sense of - done a million times before - films like Sabrina with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn, but with a Latina angle.
The story of a privileged and wealthy Congressman, scion of a political family, pursuing a mystery woman who happens to be a maid, seems like a good idea. I'm sure it was when it was pitched, but it doesn't work today.
I saw no actual impediment to their relationship. Anyone familiar with New York (even across America, especially the South) would see many, many couples of various shades, sizes, ethnicities and age. No real shockers or taboos.
Also, Jennifer Lopez (Marisa) is so self-assured in this film; she comes across as not only equal to, but also superior in self-esteem to Ralph Fiennes (Christopher). The film's message was that she was not her job title, but it was apparent Marisa felt that way from the beginning.
The story has a nice modern Cinderella touch: she gets her man and promotes herself to a better job.
