| Oh, this one snuck up on me: the plot twists, and exceptional artistry, in this anime were excellent. The police force of Japan is hunting down terrorists. There is unrest due to the repressive government. Little girls, called Red Riding Hoods, are used to carry out terrorist acts.
During one raid something goes wrong when a little girl, Agawa, decides to blow herself up instead of getting caught. It disturbs the officer, Fuse, who tried to bring her in.
Fuse goes back for re-training, constantly haunted by the little girl’s image.
There's also a possibility that there is a secret cabal within the police force known as The Wolf Brigade.
Fuse forms a typical anime romantic (platonic) relationship with a young woman, Kei. She claims to be the deceased girl’s older sister.
I haven’t seen an anime where the “hero” ever clinches it with his love interest and both survive. That plot part is entirely predictable.
The biggest mystery is: who can be trusted, and is everyone who they say they are?
Lots and lots of bloodletting in this anime. Despite the subtext of Little Red Riding Hood and Big Bad Wolf theme this is an adult story.
The quality of the drawings, the dream sequences, and plot mysteries to be resolved made this an excellent anime to watch.
