Didn't know anything about Blade until I saw the movie. I never followed the comics. I really liked this flick. But man, the blood! Buckets of it. It was fun and amusing watching Wesley Snipes growl his lines. I figured he was channeling Blacula and Shaft.
Oh but the tatoos are hot!!! The action was kick ass. I enjoy action movies - I don't worry about the plot, usually because there never is one.
The story begins with buckets of blood and ends with buckets of blood. Somewhere in between this spillage is a man who discovers who his family is: who he's from and what he really is. Kris Kristofferson plays his old sidekick, mentor, substitute-father, Whistler. I dug the biker look he had going on.
My two favorite scenes: Blade going after the vampires in the opening scenes. It's twisted, but it's funny as well.
The second favorite scene was the ending: Blade fights with his "daddy" Deacon Frost, played by Stephen Dorff (snicker). Wesley Snipes mouths a profanity when he realizes it's not going to be that easy to kill off Deacon Frost as he thought. Oh snap!
Overall, if you're looking for action, some fun and like the mix of martial arts, vampires and a Blacula/Shaft leitmotiv you'll have fun with this movie.
This film is the first of a trilogy.
There is now a television series on the Sci-Fi Channel. The show can be accessed via the iTunes button.
